Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja are officially married! The couple tied the knot on the 8th of May in Mumbai and whilst they opted for a private and intimate main ceremony with family and close friends, their reception was anything but! With Bollywood’s biggest stars in attendance, it was definitely a night to remember!
Sonam and Anand exchanged garlands in a traditional Sikh ceremony on Tuesday with Sonam opting to wear a gorgeous red and gold lehenga-choli created by Anuradha Vakil with Anand coordinating with an understated but classic gold Sherwani by Raghavendra Rathore. Accessorised with a maroon and white beaded necklace and a gold turban, Anand let his new wife’s outfit steal the spotlight.
With various images from the event now being published online, everyone from Shahrukh Khan to Ranveer Singh to Aishwarya Rai and husband Abhishek Bachchan were there to celebrate the new couple in true Bollywood style. And with big names comes big fashion; here are the trends we saw...
Jodhpuri Jackets;
Shahrukh Khan was seen in a black jodhpuri Jacket – the jodhpuri is the perfect balance between Asian and Western styles and it looks so smart! If you’re struggling for a way to coordinate your outfit with your wife/ plus one then the pocket square is a great way to subtly match.
Asymmetric Sherwanis;
A twist on the classic Sherwani, an asymmetric hem and button ensure that this style doesn’t get boring. Shahid Kapoor opted for a subtle bronze Sherwani paired with a navy fitted trouser and a smart shoe, finished with rolled up sleeves to add extra cool.
Finally, a trend we’re not sure will catch on but one we wish would is comfy footwear! Anand finished his reception look with a pair of his trusted Nike trainers! We are unsure whether the trainers were actually for comfort or just very clever product placement for Anand’s multi-brand company BUT at the end of a three-day celebration we understand that comfort is a priority; not only for the ladies so choose your footwear wisely! Or follow in Anand’s footsteps (no pun intended) and wear your trainers...
