Choosing a sherwani for your wedding is one of the most significant styling decisions you’ll make. The right sherwani frames your features, complements your bride’s outfit, and photographs beautifully in every shot. Here’s how to approach the decision.
1. Start with Your Wedding’s Colour Palette
Your sherwani should complement — not clash with — your partner’s outfit. If your bride is wearing a red lehenga, an ivory or cream sherwani creates a classic contrast. If she’s in pastels, consider a matching or complementary tone for your sherwani. During your Sherwani King consultation, we’ll ask about the full bridal party colours before making any recommendations.
2. Choose Your Fabric
Fabric affects how your sherwani looks, feels, and photographs. Key options include:
- Raw silk — a classic choice with natural lustre; photographs beautifully
- Velvet — rich and dramatic; ideal for winter or evening weddings
- Georgette — lightweight and fluid; better suited to warmer climates
- Dupion silk — structured with a subtle texture; very popular for its versatility
3. Decide on Embroidery Level
Embroidery ranges from minimal (tonal threadwork at collar and cuffs) to fully embellished (all-over zardozi). Consider your personal style and the formality of the occasion. For a Nikah or civil ceremony, lighter embroidery often works well. For a grand reception or Baraat, richer embroidery makes a statement.
4. Get Properly Measured
This is where bespoke makes all the difference. A sherwani that doesn’t fit perfectly — even if the fabric and embroidery are exquisite — will never look quite right. At Sherwani King, our tailors take a full set of measurements including posture adjustments, ensuring the finished garment moves with your body rather than against it.
5. Plan Your Timeline
A bespoke sherwani typically takes 8–12 weeks from consultation to completion. Book your consultation as early as possible — at least 3 months before your wedding date. Rush orders may be possible for select designs but always check availability.
6. Consider What You’ll Wear Again
Unlike a hired garment, your bespoke sherwani is yours permanently. Many of our clients wear their sherwani to Eid celebrations, family weddings, and formal events for years after their own wedding. Choose a style you love — not just one that’s trendy right now.
